About this site
PNG to SVG Tracer is a set of free converters for turning bitmap images into vector files. It traces PNG, JPG and WebP images into SVG, creates DXF outlines for laser cutting, CNC and CAD, and converts SVG files to DXF.
How it works
Everything runs inside your browser. When you add a file, the page reads it, a script running in a background thread traces it, and the finished SVG or DXF is created on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
Open-source parts
Image tracing uses ImageTracer.js by AndrĂ¡s Jankovics, released under the Unlicense. SVG path parsing uses svgpath by Vitaly Puzrin, released under the MIT license. The fonts are Bricolage Grotesque and Hanken Grotesk, both under the SIL Open Font License.
What to expect from the results
Tracing turns pixels into shapes by estimating edges, so results depend on the quality of the source image. Gradients become flat bands of color, and photographs become posterized artwork. DXF files are written as plain-text R12 outlines in millimeters. Check the size and the cut paths in your own software, and test on scrap material, before cutting anything.
